So you want to listen to the audio from a YouTube video but you don’t want to keep your screen on, or you want to have another app open in the foreground? Well, you could subscribe to YouTube Premium, or other sites will tell you that you can just switch or lock your screen, then swipe up and press play, but that doesn’t work anymore with the YouTube app or YouTube website. However, it does still work if embedded in a web page with the right settings.
So I’ve created a quick little page where you can paste a YouTube link and it will embed it in a background audio friendly format, so you can lock your screen or switch apps, swipe up to open the control center and press play to continue.
YouTube Background Audio Web App
A few notes:
- It doesn’t work in Safari, so use Chrome or another browser.
- The link above has a bookmarklet you can use from YouTube’s website to bring up the current video in the app above, saving you a couple of steps. Since you’re using Chrome anyway (see above), add the bookmarklet to your desktop Chrome browser and you can access it from your mobile Chrome browser.
- The video player is small since this, along with some other settings, saves bandwidth (you aren’t watching the video anyway). I also made the page background dark to further save power.
Thank you creating something like these. Been searching for this on google. I like it much, very useful to those who want to listen to music while browsing.
